I think it is comparable with the raid found in most current MB's which is what the community refers to as 'fakeraid'. If so, the good news is that the Linux dmraid software would probably serve the same purpose as the Windows drivers to to run it in your system.

Looking at the Newegg site and following the link to the manufactures website indicates that the card uses a via chip set. There shouldn't be anything 'that old' about its PCI bus standards: I'm not nor do I welcome risks. Either it's dead right or apparently wrong.
This fix is also in recent Linux kernels, so Linux will not experience this issue. The technical details are reported to be as follows: Setting it to 1 makes the watermark 64DW.

Thoughts on using eSATA: If you plan to use external eSATA devices with 9x, assigned drive letters can be an issue. Attaching a drive may cause drive letters to shift. Primary partitions get the first drive letters in the order the drives are recognized by BIOS, then extended partitions in the order the drives are recognized by BIOS.

The advantage is since DOS does not see the drive, the drive letter does not become "anchored" and Windows can assign it any drive letter similar to USB flash drives. Nope Only utilised it for recognizing my drives.
Worked proper out of the box without having the want to use the drivers on the disk. Functionality is slow as people have stated. I am making use of it with two 1TB Hatchi sata drives with no raid.
I have not tested the ide port but over all this is a fantastic raid card if all you want is some ports. Utilised the card to add an SATA mirror into a server. Card functions fine in Server Not certain the point.
